Dear Editor: Thank you for Prohibition 'cure' proved worse than disease (10/24/04). Mr. Kauffman provides valuable insights. The most senseless prohibition is the medical prohibition of old herbal remedies when prohibition is based on ideology and prejudice rather than science and observation. It is clear that suffering patients benefit from medical marijuana and that most Oregonians support the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act from 1998. It is time for the federal government to get their collective act together and end medical prohibition of marijuana. Passing Measure 33 will help end medical prohibition of medical marijuana in Oregon. Marijuana is the only pain medicine that does not cause death with overdose. Yet the medical prohibition is based on ideology instead of science so doctors are prohibited from prescribing the least lethal pain medicine on the planet. Let's be smart and learn from history. Let's be compassionate and vote Yes on 33.
