------- Action -------

Tell the President: Don't Just Say It. Do It!
You Can Make a Difference
Tell the president: We need a new direction for U.S. drug policy, not the status quo. > Take Action NOW! <

President Obama is saying all the right things when it comes to drug policy reform, but not enough has changed since he took office. You and I need to show President Obama that we won't stand for the status quo on drug policy.

After a promising start on drug policy issues, the Obama administration has gone astray. The president’s proposed drug war budget looks a whole lot like the Bush administration’s drug war budget, with funding for failed enforcement policies far outweighing funding for treatment. Tell the Obama administration you’re tired of Bush-era drug policy and ready for some change you can believe in!

Last month, President Obama nominated an anti-reform Bush holdover to head the DEA. Under the Bush administration, nominee Michele Leonhart coordinated numerous medical marijuana raids and stood in the way of scientific research. A new drug policy requires new leadership, especially when the nominee was so closely associated with the failed policies of the past. The president has repeatedly said that science, not politics, should guide drug policy, and his drug czar called for an end to the war on drugs. The Obama administration isn’t spouting drug war rhetoric, but it hasn’t abandoned drug war policies either.

Write to the president and urge him to deliver on his promise to improve U.S. drug policy. > Take Action NOW! <

The Emerald Empire HempFest is an annual event (third weekend in July), held in a city park. It is ‘Free-to-the-public’ event. Education is the primary goal of this all-volunteer effort. There will be two stages with great musical bands, a food court featuring nutritious foods, art booths, and vendors featuring many hemp products, and nonprofit booths. Guest speakers will discuss the environmental benefits of hemp, medical uses of Marijuana and the futility and negative consequences of prohibition. As former organizer Eilleen Erdelt once stated: "The HempFest is a family-oriented event celebrating a God-given plant that has been prohibited by man."

Our Mission. The purpose of the Emerald Empire Hempfest is to unite our citizens in calling for sweeping reforms in America's laws against cannabis and hemp. This is a uniquely valuable plant: it provides high levels of key nutrients, relieves symptoms for patients suffering from an array of medical conditions, and can be made into environmentally positive products such as clothing, paper, paint, biodegradable plastics, and replacements for fossil fuels.

Please join us in the fight to roll back prohibition and increase production and usage of one of the world's most beneficial plants! With your help, Hempfest 2010 will be even bigger and better. Hope to see you there!

Entertainment:  TBA

*  We wish to Note the availability of "Medical Marijuana Law," a book co-authored by Richard Glen Boire, of the Center for Cognitive Liberty & Ethics (www.cognitiveliberty.org), and Kevin Feeney

Medical Marijuana Law offers a complete overview of federal law and each of the 11 state medical marijuana programs. MMJ Law discusses the medical necessity defense in depth, how to qualify for each state program, the legal rights of patients and the role and legal rights of caregivers, how to deal with cops and how to remain legal under your state's law. MMJ Law also explores the rights and responsibilities of physicians who recommend marijuana, and explains how physicians can avoid legal troubles.

In addition to the above, MMJ Law contains a resource guide for each state, listing the prominent clinics and patient advocacy organizations in each state, contains the Marijuana Policy Project's Model Medical Marijuana Bill, a forward by Frank Lucido, MD, one of the prominent marijuana docs in California, and an article by Dale Gieringer (NORML) providing advice to medical marijuana providers.  The book is 190 pages and retails at 14.95, but is available on Amazon at a reduced price. Clinics who wish to stock this book should visit the website of Ronin Publishing at ( http://www.roninpub.com/ord_whole.html ).

We feel that this guide will be a valuable resource for patients, caregivers and their doctors. Any and all feedback on this book from readers is appreciated. Questions are also welcome.  For more information Contact:  Kevin Feeney, JD  (lalunaensumano@hotmail.com)

Nationally Syndicated Talk Show Host To Be New Voice For NORML’s Daily Audio Stash -- Over 28,000 Daily Listeners Download Web’s Most ‘Pot-Friendly’ Political Podcast

Washington, DC, USA: The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) has tapped syndicated radio talk show host Russ Belville as the new voice for its highly popular podcast, the NORML Daily Audio Stash.

Belville (aka ‘Radical Russ’) is the current host of the nationally syndicated radio show, "The Russ Belville Show," which airs on XM Satellite Radio's Air America channel 167 and on various terrestrial stations across the country. Belville also serves as the associate director for Oregon NORML.

"We are thrilled to welcome Russ on board as the new voice of NORML’s successful audio-programming," NORML Executive Director Allen St. Pierre said. "Five days a week, Russ will share his broadcast expertise and cannabis insight with the tens of thousands of NORML listeners who tune into the Daily Audio Stash and visit the program’s new interactive blog: http://stash.norml.org."

Belville takes over for departing Audio Stash host Chris Goldstein, who co- founded the program with NORML’s Executive Director in June 2006.

Today, NORML’s Daily Audio Stash ranks among the top 10 ‘most subscribed’ political podcasts in Apple Computer’s iTunes Music Store – typically receiving more downloads than podcasts produced by the White House, the Pentagon, and US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Available for download Monday through Friday at 4:20pm eastern time at: http://www.norml.org, the Daily Audio Stash provides a forum for politicians, celebrities, physicians, scientists, and citizen activists to participate in uninhibited conversations about marijuana and legal reform. Recent guests on the Audio Stash include US Congressmen and Presidential candidates Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, noted poet and political activist John Sinclair, recording artists Fishbone and the Kottonmouth Kings, PBS travel-host and author Rick Steves, comedians Tommy Chong and Rob Cantrell (Last Comic Standing), political columnist and commentators Clarence Page and Froma Harrop, and pot cultivation expert and noted author Ed Rosenthal.

For more information or to learn how you can advertise on NORML’s top-rated podcast, please contact host Russ Belville at: radicalruss@gmail.com or Audio Stash Executive Producer Allen St. Pierre at (202) 483-5500.

GlassWare Party (was Jan. 28th, 2006).  Attention patients who use "glass" pipes for medical cannabis delivery devices. GlassWare Parties are an opportunity for medical cannabis patients to examine and inquire about this particular means of medicating in privacy and comfort.

For example, a GlassWare Party was held at the MERCY Center Sat., Jan. 28th, 2006 from High Noon to 4:20pm featuring the very functional glass art of Smokin' Glass of Portland.  Patients were able to preview beautiful, practical "glass" products and accessories in a nice, SAFE, friendly environment where people can discuss the FAQS openly and straightforward.

Y'see, when in the store, conversations must be carefully controlled, even in the age of OMMA.

NOTE: "Smoke Shop" Protocol for Medical Cannabis Patients

Smokin' Glass sells only the finest quality functional glass art and other products.  Sure, WE all know what else they can be used for, but we can't talk openly about it in the store.

OMMA didn't fix anything in this area, it's the same old drag.  Anyone heard using words like: Bong, Hash-pipe or any word that implies illegal intent in the store - could be a local yokel on a boon-doggle or even a DEA agent on a fishing expedition - and the owner could be fined or even shut down.  No joke.

SORRY!  But federal law applies, so watch yer terminology!  Yep, it's a silly game we ALL must play til we change the law.

Smokin' Glass has supported individuals and groups in the medical cannabis movement since the concept began.  They help as much as they can publicly, mostly by patiently educating consumers on the law when purchasing their functional glass art for use as delivery devices while giving them the best price they can.

Now, would like to help more by offering a discount to the patient community.  Mention you read it here and receive 30% off!  Yes, all OMMP Cardholders get a whopping 30 percent savings on your purchase.  So, stop on by their new location in Portland at -

1408 SE 39th, a half block north of Hawthorne up 39th, next to Jiffy Lube

- and ask about their water-pipes (NOT "bongs"!) and other functional glass pieces that OMMA cardholders may be interested in.   Visit: http://mercycenters.org/events/GlassWare_Party.html    for details.

Grow-vention (2/26/05). Growers Convention. Bring all growers together in safe environment and enable free exchange of information and resources. Have presentations and booths. Allow patients to attend in order to pick up info, resources or shop for a grower.
