Bali |
Smoking tolerance level [1= very illegal 5=virtually legal]: 2.5 ---
Legislation:
Possession, Sale, and Consumption of Marijuana is Illegal and punishable with prison 10 years prison and the death penalty is given for trafficking.
Law enforcement:
The laws are enforced strongly, especially recently over the controversy with the Bali nine, and Australian trafficking and terrorist attacks. Searches happen though this is mainly for bombs. Though Bali is highly concentrated with police in tourist areas especially Kuta and Legian. Police will except bribes, and generally know not to hassle tourists without due cause.
Where to buy marijuana in bali:
Head down to Poppies lane in Kuta and walk around the square that area has a high concentration of dealers; also you can hookup from other tourists, particularly Aussie surfer dudes. Night Clubs will be abundant with dealers and you will generally be approached more than once in areas like Kuta. Be careful when you buy your weed there is a lot of dealers selling you fake stuff, in fact you will most likely be offered this, even though it looks like pot it will not smell like it, the fake stuff smells dusty. I suggest u smoke a bit of it first to test it, tell them you want to test it and that you will pay for the bag if its real weed and they have no problem, though of recent the tsunami’s in Banda Aceh have seriously affected the marijuana available, most local marijuana comes from Aceh, and the supply has been temporarily cut off for now, causing prices to increase, and way too much fake marijuana being available.
In fact In my own experience I co uldn’t even manage to score real weed despite the myriad of dealers. In Bali Shrooms are legally sold and I do recommend you purchase some, makes for a wonderful experience with someone special, In the Mushroom Warungs (cafeteria’s) ask the person to hook you up, just make sure you try before you buy. Yet as you are buying from a warung you will probably get real stuff. Beware of all the hustlers who offer you a hook up chances are they end up taking u to the end somewhere scamming you to pay transport and tell you that the guy just ran out though he will have some later and then you end up being forced to buy some handicrafts or something. So just be careful Hustlers are plentiful and the scams elaborate.
a recent report we recieved : “Essentially all over Bali you can get it, However mainly on Jalan Legian, which is the street that ALOT of the bars/pubs/clubs are on in Bali and therefore alot of tourists. I tend never to really go to Nusa Dua, as it is the more expensive part of Bali, so im unsure as to whether you can get it there. But wherever there is a large body of tourists you will find both genuine dealers and scam artists. So as in the other article you can ask to test it and that will be ok, as long as you aren’t cheeky about it.”
Bali Marijuana prices:
Aceh Weed and Nepalese hash 500,000 Rupiah for a good 10 grams, though make sure you bargain you will initially be charged much more and u can get the price down to 350,000 Rupiah. Australian hydro varies, Aussies get better prices than others, though its about 30 USD for a gram, but as I said earlier prices vary greatly ive heard people saying they’ve paid as much as 80 USD for a gram. Though generally I suggest you don’t pay that much, it means prices go up and stay up.
a recent erport we recieved is: “The prices that are stated in the original report are rip off prices, however if you are a tourist and cannot speak the language or are only speaking from a book, you will generally get those sorts of prices. Good weed is indeed incredibly hard to come by, but if you are a good negotiator (and you manage to find it) you can get it for 50-100 thou, depending on your attitude with the guy.”
Brands:
Australian Hydro (mainly skunk, especially red hair), Nepalese Hash, Thai Sticks, Aceh Weed, Scwhag.
More information:
The main problem with smoking in public is that if people think they can get a bob or two out of reporting you to the police, then they will. Either the police will expect a bribe (higher if your a Tourist). But they may also use the situation to get money out of the premises, as that is where they found you. Smoking in clubs isnt really tolerated as Bali is incredibly security conscious after the bombings. Also there is the risk of police coming into the club, either for a different reson or because someone else has reported you, so due to the hassle of having to deal with the police the club/pub owners generally dont like it.
Smoking on the beach is always fun, but it can be quite windy, and not really reccommended. Hotels are probably the safest place to smoke, just as long as you dont really rouse much suspicion. Any harder drugs can be found there or in Club 66 or along Jalan Legian (with plenty of people whispering in broken english the names and slan g names). 66 is essentially a rave everynight, in a club that is right on the beach. Even if you dont do any drugs, it is recommended (althought slightly more expensive than other places), as long as your comfortable around homosexuals, but usually they make they night more interesting.

Legislation:
it is illegal to posess or smoke marijuana in this country
DEATH upon conviction, even a small plant with no flowering lands you at least US$2500 fine + jail term. Not sure if caught with a handful of buds though.
Law enforcement:
sometimes enforced, but other times the police just looks the other way.
The police has no idea what marijuana looks/smells like, but be careful of drugraids. Smoking up in public is no problem, as long as there is no police around. If locals catch you they will just laugh. I my self rolled a big joint while walking on one of the major streets (at midnight).
usually slacks, they are more intere$ted in swooping big nightclubs where all the action is, to be safe, stay away from nightspots..
Where to buy marijuana:
Kampung Ambon in Cengkareng is the wholesale marijuana hub in Jakarta, it is where the best stuff is sold. Other places to find would be in the discotheques, just ask the dealers scattered around.
A good place to get weed from is Block M near a mall called “pasar raya”. just ask one of the indonisians hanging around, selling DVD. The weed in Block M is good but if you want to score hash, go to the north, to “Glodok” or “Mangga Dua”. Another good place to get weed is Kemang, dont be afraid to ask people, its totaly safe.
and also: “this is tricky, I have followed the advice from previous report >Kampong Ambon, it’s difficult to find and the area is home to the notorious illegal settlers, robbers/snatchers etc. Totally unsafe even for locals, most taxi driver will refuse at night.
For ease of convenince, you can go to the disco in town and ask the many dealers inside. most will offer you MDMA but they do have weed as well. It’s expensive there cos it’s all pre-rolled tiny joints, made up from 2 mini skin, amount of weed inside is just as much as 1 bong hit mixed with clove tabacco.
One particular spot which has at least a few dealers aggresively approach you as you enter, is the infamous ST*D**M, (=sports ground).”
Marijuana prices:
0.5-1$/g good qualety 30$/150g bad qualety;
small packets for Rp 150,000 big packets Rp 400,000;
also: “Rp20,000 for a mini joint”.
Marijuana brands:
-The best weed comes from Aceh, some is good (hindu kush) some is bad (plant unknown). never buy weed from Bandung, its extremly bad.
-Nepal Hash

Jakarta is not famous for its weed but for its XTC witch starts at 2$ per pill.

Legislation:
Penalties are pretty harsh. Possession will land you about 4 months to a year in prison. If you’re white you might have bigger trouble with the authorities if you’re not willing to spread some cash. Dealing will lead to bigger penalties depending on how much of an example they want to make out of you.
Law enforcement:
Police are not lenient. Regular stop and searches.
Where to buy marijuana:
All the major shopping malls have vendors kicking about. Delta plaza, Galaxy mall and Pasar Atam are really good. The red light district, Dolly , is also a good bet. Look for guys hanging around phone card kiosks. Or wait to be approached by someone saying Hello Mister.

About 100,000 -200,000 (10 – 20 dollars) for an eigth of an ounce (3.5 grams)

Accepted Medical Use: Medical Professionals
Cannabis's accepted medical use in the United States is increasingly recognized by health care professionals and the medical community, including the Institute of Medicine. Numerous medical organizations support legal access to cannabis for medicinal purposes. A new medical journal released in 2001 focuses on the medicinal use of cannabis and cannabinoids. National clinical conferences on the medicinal use of cannabis have been held in the United States in 2000 and 2002 and are scheduled to continue on a biennial basis. Most importantly, data on the number of physicians currently recommending therapeutic marijuana use to their patients demonstrate its acceptance by the medical community in the United States.
The most significant evidence of marijuana’s acceptance by the medical community in the United States consists of data on the number of physicians currently recommending marijuana medical use by their patients:
"By any reasonable definition, marijuana has "currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States."

weed in Indonesia?
Discussion in 'Places and People' started by budrick, Jun 20, 2002

hello, everybody!
sorry for my first post being a 'please help' one, but it's pretty urgent.
I'm going on a trip to Indonesia pretty soon, Bali to be exact, need to know if anyone is informed about the law over there, and above all, what about prices and availability? -where to go-?
regards.
... well, we actually were in indonesia and brought some reaver with us (they do not check flights from europa to asia for this stuff). in indonesia, my friend and i were frightened by a huge sign, which said: "death penaly to those who bring drug to bali"... well they didn't check us... after five days, we were out of mary jane and started searchin all over bali and half of java asking guys who seemed to be nice and didn't look like policemen if they know where we can catch some ganja. nothing...
everybody accepted it but nobody knew where to buy it... we asked a guy with a hemp tatoo on his arm and he had no idea (this happened in one of the biggest towns on java) so we couldn't find weed, but indonesia rockz so much,m you can even chill without weed
... Indonesia has a four year mandatory minimum sentence for possession of any amount of cannabis.

N.J. Senate approves medical marijuana bill -
Monday, December 15, 2008 |
TRENTON BUREAU:
A Senate committee today cleared a measure that would allow medical use of marijuana in New Jersey.
The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee voted to approve the long-stalled bill by a 6 to 1 margin; two senators abstained.
The bill calls for creating “alternative treatment centers” where people with chronic and terminal diseases would be allowed access to marijuana. Supporters say marijuana is a viable treatment option to alleviate pain in many cases.
“It is the definition of basic human decency that we do whatever we can to ease the pain and suffering of people living with severe chronic and terminal diseases,” said bill sponsor Sen. Nicholas Scutari, D-Union.
“When all other avenues of currently-approved pain relief have been exhausted, we need to give doctors the freedom to prescribe medical marijuana to give their patients a measure of comfort and dignity in the face of their debilitating diseases. This bill is about the most humane, compassionate option for those state residents who have nowhere else to turn in managing their illnesses.”
If ultimately approved by the full Legislature and signed by Governor Corzine, New Jersey would be the 14th state to allow medical use of marijuana.

A new study entitled Marijuana Effectiveness as an HIV Self-Care Strategy, which was released this past weekend in Clinical Nursing Research, indicates that persons living with HIV/AIDS rate cannabis as more effective in treating the symptoms of anxiety, depression, fatigue, diarrhea, and neuropathy than other prescription and over the counter medications.
The study, which was conducted over a two year period and included 775 patients from the USA, Africa, and Puerto Rico, assessed the use of cannabis as a symptom management approach for anxiety, depression, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, and peripheral neuropathy. 27% of survey participants reported using cannabis for medicinal purposes.
Researchers wrote that cannabis use “was rated slightly more effective than antidepressants for anxiety and depression, Imodium for diarrhea, [over the counter] (OTC) medications for fatigue, and anti-epileptics and OTC medications for neuropathy” while cannabis was rated “slightly less effective for nausea than either prescribed or OTC medications.” Authors concluded that cannabis “is perceived by users as at least as effective as prescribed medications in symptom management.”

Bali officials crack down on drug tourism
- By Jack Daniel in Culture, Global -
Monday, May 19, 2014
| As Indonesia's most popular vacation destination, the island of Bali expects to welcome as many as 10 million tourists this year. Being surrounded by crystal clear waters, white sand beaches, and cheap Nepalese hash may sound like paradise...oh, ok, it is paradise.
But if you plan to be among those planning a trip to Bali in 2014, you should beware that the National Narcotics Agency Bali (BNN) - sort of Indonesia's version of the DEA - has vowed to crack down on narcotics tourism in what they say has already been a busy year of drug busts.
Much like in the U.S., Indonesia ranks various types of drugs into "Groups" based on the balance of their perceived medicinal value versus their perceived threat of addiction or harm to the user.
Also much like the Schedules of the Controlled Substances Act in America, any Group that lists marijuana alongside heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, and meth is full of shit.
Despite horrific bombings by Islamic terrorists in Bali in 2002 and 2005, border security is reported to still be shockingly sparse. The ever-increasing number of tourists flooding onto the island only spread that security more thin, but if they do catch you smuggling, buying, or even openly smoking on ganja in Bali, good luck.
If Indonesian customs officials catch you trying to import any weed, you're screwed. You will receive anywhere from four to twenty years in a foreign jail cell.
48 year old Robert McJannett was flying into Bali from his home country of Australia in December of 2009 when, upon arrival, officials discovered less than two grams of herb in his luggage.
So, for "importing" 1.7 grams of bud into Bali, he faced a 15 year sentence. On top of that, the prosecution tried to add on possession charges carrying another 4-12 years. Fortunately for McJannett, cooler heads prevailed, and when found guilty, he "only" had to serve seven months at Bali's Kerobokan Prison.
Another Aussie, Schapelle Corby, was not so lucky. In 2005, authorities claim to have found 4.20 kilos of pot lazily stuffed into a boogie board bag belonging to Corby when they searched her luggage upon her arrival to Bali. The weed was completely undisguised, in a clear bag, immediately visible when the bag was unzipped.
To this day, Corby swears the weed was planted on her, and that she would never be so stupid to smuggle such a large amount in plain view.
The bag of weed was never fingerprinted, because authorities admitted that too many hands touched it at the airport. Yet, she was still slapped with a 20 year sentence.
Maybe she was lucky, though, since Indonesian law allowed for the death penalty in a case like hers, and the prosecution pushed hard for it. They would have a 27 year old tourist put before a firing squad over a disputed bag of cannabis. So consider that if you plan to visit this year.
Eventually, the threat of being riddled with bullets was dropped, and Corby got nailed with the 20 year sentence. She appealed, but the sentence was confirmed in 2010. In a last ditch effort, she begged the Indonesian president for clemency, and in 2012, she was granted a reduction to her sentence.
She was released earlier this year, on February 10th, after serving nine long years behind bars. Still on parole, however, she cannot leave the country until July of 2017.
If you plan to just buy some when you arrive, even that can be dangerous. In regions like Kuta, street dealers are said to whisper names and prices of various drugs to anyone passing by.
In 2011 an unnamed 14-year-old Australian boy was approached by such a person and offered a quarter ounce of herb for $25. He followed the man into a massage parlor and traded cash for the bud and made his way back out to the street.
He was immediately apprehended by local police, who just so happened to guess that he would have some weed on him. It turns out he got the ol' tourist deal, the 6.7 gram "quarter ounce", but it was still enough that he faced a six year prison term. The judge in the case eventually dropped the sentence to two months, but holy shit, two months in an Indonesian prison at the age of 14 is a pretty harsh life lesson.

Bali Marijuana « Releaf Magazine - 18 Oct, 2012
|
BALI, Indonesia (AP) — A 17-year-old Japanese boy was sentenced to six months in prison Thursday for possessing a small amount of marijuana while vacationing with family on Indonesia’s resort island of Bali.
The teen could have received 12 years under Indonesia’s tough narcotics laws. Judge Gunawan Tri Budiono said in Denpasar district court that although the boy ‘‘spoiled the image of Bali as tourist destination,’’ he showed leniency because the boy is young and bought the drugs for personal use.
The teen, who cannot be named under Indonesian law because of his age, admitted buying 2.6 grams (0.09 ounces) of marijuana for personal use. He has been detained in a police cell since Aug. 8, after buying the marijuana near popular Kuta beach while vacationing with his mother.
He will be credited for time served. The judge said the boy would be freed in February and immediately deported.
Last year, a 14-year-old Australian boy avoided prison after serving two months in an Indonesian detention center for buying drugs. The court also showed leniency after he expressed remorse and able to prove it he bought the drugs for personal use.

Bali Forces Rehab For Aussie, 14, For Marijuana Possession
-
By Steve Elliott ~alapoet~ in Global, News -
Tuesday, October 11, 2011 |
The arrest of a 14-year-old Australian boy in Bali for marijuana possession has created a media firestorm. The boy will likely be held in "drug rehabilitation" for up to another month while he waits to learn how and when he will go to trial.
The Australian ambassador to Indonesia said the case is his "top priority," reports The Conversation, and even Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard telephoned the teen in prison on Sunday, assuring him "everything is being done" to secure his release.
The boy is being moved from police headquarters in Denpasar, Bali, "probably" to a rehabilitation center, according to his Balian lawyer, Muhammad Rifan, report Deborah Cassrels and Peter Alford of The Australian. Rifan said the police investigation and a summary of evidence should be complete within three days, at which point regulations require him to be removed from police station custody and to another facility.
The Australian |
The mother of the 14-year-old Australian boy accused of marijuana possession in Kuta, at police headquarters in Denpasar on Tuesday
"We don't know exactly whether he will be moved to another location or authority," Rifan said. "It can be jail, it can be rehabilitation center."
The boy, a high school student a coastal area north of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, was arrested by undercover police on October 4 for allegedly carrying 3.6 grams of marijuana he bought from a street dealer in Kuta.
Director Mulyadi of the Bali police narcotics division said the boy would be moved once the legal brief was handed to prosecutors.
Police have recommended the boy be charged under Article 128 of Bali's narcotics law, which allows for an underage drug user to be released into rehabilitation rather than serve a maximum six-month jail term.
State prosecutors will decide charges after taking a look at the evidence.
They have 30 days from receiving the evidence to lodge the case with Denpasar district court, which will set a hearing date.
The boy's mother is staying close to the police headquarters where he is being held; his father returned to Australia over the weekend.
Greg Moriarty, Australia's ambassador to Indonesia (of which Bali is a part) visited the boy and his mother on Tuesday during talks with Indonesian officials to expedite the case.
"I have no immediate concerns for his health or wellbeing," Moriarty said after the meeting. "He and his family are obviously under an incredible amount of pressure but they are tough and are holding up as well as could be expected."
Moriarty wouldn't comment on whether the boy would be allowed to return home under his parents' care if put under an Indonesian rehabilitation order.
He rejected calls for Australian vacationers to boycott Bali to protest the case.
"I think Australians need to read the travel advice," Moriarty said. "Obviously many thousands of Australians do visit Bali and have a very enjoyable holiday."

Marijuana Buy Earns Bonus of an Extended Stay in Bali,
German Tourist Facing Prison after Arrest at Kuta Hotel in Bali for Marijuana Possession.
-
(1/24/2011) |
The grave consequences of "adding a bit of spice" to a Bali holiday by purchasing marijuana was underlined, once again, with the arrest of a 31-year-old German, Andreas Wolfgang Binder, at a hotel on Jalan Poppies I on Friday, January 21, 2011.
As reported by the National News Agency Antara, police from the Denpasar police headquarters arrested the man with 1.26 grams of cannabis after receiving reports form local citizens of a suspicious transaction between two men involving a "small brown packet."
The German was apprehended at 7:00 pm on Friday night. Binder reportedly told police he purchased the illegal drugs on the streets from a man he did not know.
Police believe the man bought the drugs from a member of a Kuta drug syndicate. Members of Bali's anti-narcotics squad continue to investigate the case while holding the German under arrest.

Why Australian marijuana is a big hit in Bali
- The Age, 26th May 2005
|
Perhaps the most compelling reason so many Australians believe Schapelle Corby is innocent is the “coals to Newcastle” argument: why would anyone smuggle marijuana to Bali when everyone knows it’s so easy to get there?
While drugs might seem freely available on the streets, the foreigners who live in Bali, including those serving time in Kerobokan jail, say that buying them is a very risky business because you never know if the seller is an undercover police officer or a police informer.
For that reason, westerners in Bali are prepared to pay premium prices for marijuana if they can get it from other Westerners, as that’s the best way to ensure they are not going to be trapped and arrested.
According to four sources in Bali contacted by The Age, including one former and one current drug dealer, high-quality Australian marijuana,
similar in appearance to that found in Schapelle Corby’s luggage, has been sold on a limited basis in Bali for years, but only to Westerners.
One European man, now serving a jail term for possessing hashish, said he knows of several Australians who have been bringing strong hydroponic marijuana into Bali.
He said it brings “really good money”, getting a price around 50 per cent higher than the Nepalese hashish that is more widely available for around $A16 a gram on the streets.
He said the marijuana was stronger than hashish, which is produced from the same plant and has the same active constituents. “You just can’t move, it’s like (being) brain dead,” he said of its effect.
An Australian who says he’s lived in Bali for 15 years contacted The Age several times to say his children were frequently offered marijuana called “Aussie gold”. The man, who refused to give his name, said the “hydroponic bud” smuggled from Australia sells for $A600 an ounce (about $A21 a gram) or as much as $A20,000 a kilogram.
Top quality marijuana in Australia sells for around $8000 a kilogram, although more when broken into “deals”.
A Balinese drug dealer who has spent time in jail said he had smoked the Australian “skunk” many times with friends from Italy, Germany and Australia but had never bought or sold any.
Despite requests from Corby’s lawyers, Indonesian police did not test the marijuana in her bag to find out where it was grown or its strength, and it is not certain it was grown hydroponically, a cultivation method that increases its potency. But when the bag of marijuana was displayed in the court, it was clear it was made up of buds the size of bananas, which emitted a powerful smell whenever the plastic bag was opened.
While marijuana in the 1970s had THC (active ingredient) levels of around 1 to 2 per cent, today’s hydroponic marijuana often has THC levels of 15 per cent, higher than a lot of hashish.
The Balinese drug dealer, who would not be named, said that while there was a lot of marijuana for sale, “it’s hard for foreigners to get access to it” because they were fearful of getting caught. “It’s safer for foreigners to bring their own. It’s been happening for quite some time and it’s not only marijuana.”
While he was aware of the importation of marijuana from Australia, he said it was more common for foreigners to bring in hashish or other drugs.
While a number of foreigners have been arrested for trafficking or possessing hashish, Bali police say the marijuana found in Corby’s luggage was the first incidence in which they have found the drug being brought into Bali from another country.

US Government Says It Will Stop Interfering with Medical Marijuana |
According to this article, US Attorney General Eric Holder has said that states will be allowed to make their own rules about medical marijuana, and that the US federal government will stop raiding medical marijuana dispensaries in California. (See article “Can Marijuana Help Rescue California’s Economy?”at this link)
In the 1990s, several US states passed referendums which allowed marijuana to be used legally for medical purposes. In a referendum, the registered voters vote directly on the proposed law, as opposed to the law being passed by the state legislature. Thus, when these states passed these referendums, it meant that the citizens of these states really wanted medical marijuana to be made legal.
However, in a blatant disregard for democracy and the people’s will, under the Bush administration, the national government refused to accept this law, and carried out raids of the medical marijuana dispensaries.

Informational Guide on Medical Cannabis |
If you have ever heard of the song, “Lets Go Get Stoned,” as sung by Ray Charles or Joe Cocker, you know the lyrics were referring to getting high or using cannabis aka marijuana. This mind altering drug goes by other names as well; names such as weed, pot, joint, blunt, hash and mary jane are quite common among users. Cannabis is a plant that contains a chemical called cannabinoids or cannabinolidic acids.
Another substance that is found in cannabis is THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, which gives the users that “high” sensation. When speaking of marijuana, the actual substance used in creating the high feeling comes from the leaves and flowering tops of the cannabis plant. Marijuana is considered to be a schedule 1 controlled substance today, because of the THC, which can be highly potent, depending upon the concentration factor of the THC.

Proven : Cannabis is Safe Medicine
by Ian Williams Goddard | In reaction to medical cannabis access referendums on the ballots in Arizona and California, former presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and George Bush signed a letter stating that they "categorically oppose'' access to cannabis for its many proven therapeutic uses such as the prevention of blindness and epileptic seizures. Their chief concern was that legal medical access would send the message that cannabis is safe. The presidents can, however, lay their safety concerns to rest because the scientific literature overwhelmingly confirms that cannabis is both an effective and safe medicine.
The Cannabis Safety Profile. The journal PHARMACOLOGICAL REVIEWS reports that decades of research prove that, "Compared with legal drugs...marijuana does not pose greater risks." Yet based upon mortality statistics, we can safely conclude that cannabis is one of the safest medical drugs known, for, while prescription drugs, defined as safe by the FDA, kill up to 27,000 and aspirin up to 1,000 Americans per year, cannabis kills 0 per year.
