|
The Thai medical marijuana strain is a variety that is a pure Sativa. Green Thailand is a pure landrace Thai strain from the island of Ko Chang in Thailand. It boasts as one of the highest THC contents of any cannabis variety in the world. Green Thailand is one of the most productive strains in Thailand helped by the relatively short flowering time compared to some other Thai strains. Although perfectly suited to indoor cultivation, it's potential size makes it possibly more suited to greenhouse and outdoor cultivation. Accepted Medical Use: Medical Professionals
Cannabis's accepted medical use in the United States is increasingly recognized by health care professionals and the medical community, including the Institute of Medicine. Numerous medical organizations support legal access to cannabis for medicinal purposes. A new medical journal released in 2001 focuses on the medicinal use of cannabis and cannabinoids. National clinical conferences on the medicinal use of cannabis have been held in the United States in 2000 and 2002 and are scheduled to continue on a biennial basis. Most importantly, data on the number of physicians currently recommending therapeutic marijuana use to their patients demonstrate its acceptance by the medical community in the United States.
The most significant evidence of marijuana’s acceptance by the medical community in the United States consists of data on the number of physicians currently recommending marijuana medical use by their patients:
"By any reasonable definition, marijuana has "currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States."

Drug Use in Thailand - Blogcritics Culture |
While in many countries dealing is now the only illegal aspect of the drug subculture (at least regarding marijuana), in Thailand possession is still a very ...
Anyone with even a passing interest in international news or specifically regarding south-east Asia and Thailand, will be familiar with the notorious drug war launched a few years ago by the Thaksin government. Since that time there has been a second drug war and a 3rd one is looming.
The condemnations are barely heard now as Thaksin has outlawed any reporting on the statistics regarding those killed. I've harped on this numerous times and I won't go into details again.
3, 000 killed extra-judicially in 3 months (with the laughable claim that only a dozen or so were done in by the police), many with identical envelopes of speed tablets and similar handguns found next to their corpses, sums up the brutality and underlying mentality guiding such campaigns.
Anyone who uses drugs is only ever a few steps removed from a dealer of some sort, regardless of whether a few joints or pills are being handed on to them by a friend who made the transaction.
The belief that being slightly removed from any dealing activities somehow insulates a person from the horseshit that is inevitably associated, is a sentiment I have long sensed from most drug users.
While in many countries dealing is now the only illegal aspect of the drug subculture (at least regarding marijuana), in Thailand possession is still a very serious crime that can result in a length of sentence similar to that which a person would face for manslaughter in the west.
Once in the orbit of anyone who is providing you with drugs, you are beholden to that person to a certain degree. Add into the mix the fact that your judgement is undoubtedly skewed because of the usage and you are receptive to suggestions and requests from such individuals. If someone is leaning on them, what qualms would they have against using you in any possible way so as to lessen their potential plight or punishment?
There are numerous examples of Brits, Australians, yanks and other foreigners banged up in Thailand for getting involved in the drug scene.
Bangkok's Bang Kwang prison is full of western fools who thought they were immune from consequences.

... its around, try Khao San Road in BKK where the travelers hangout. Just be careful, and you may have to bargain a bit, as they try to rip you off. Best to ask another foreigner who looks like a smoker. Be careful of tuk-tuk drivers, they can always supply it, but often low quality and they MAY be working with the cops.
Don't get busted, as the going bribe for getting out of a small possession charge is around 50-60,000 baht.

Marijuanae is the most popular drug in Thailand
January 18th, 2009 | Crimes, Drugs --
People that use drugs in Thailand prefer marijuana before amphetamines, kratom, methamphetamines, inhalants, love pills, heroine, opium, ketamines, and cocaine.
The price picture is about same with marijuana being the cheapest and Yaba and Kratom the second cheapest.
Ecstasy and Cocaine is mostly used by foreigners or in and has not really got a clear foot in Thailand yet.
After former PM Thaksins drug was that killed over 4200 people the drugs have slowly started to come back. The Police are urging the new government to do something about it.

Thailand - Marijuana and Travel |
One should never be unprepared in a foreign country. After hanging out a bit I tried to find some Ganja. I walked through many markets filled with great Thai food. People selling food in make-shift markets and from three wheeled motor carts. I thought to my self that there has to be Ganja here some where.
I could not smell any in the air any where. Then I asked a few people about the subject and in their broken English all they could say is "police, police".
I met a girl in Bangkok named Kia. I gave her ten dollars for ganja and off she went to a notorious part of Bangkok called Koh San Road. There are many tourists there and I am sure at one time also plenty of pot. However these days all that exist are set-ups and rip-offs. I would not recommend people go looking for herb there.
Kia met a guy that promised to give her pot, if she gave him the money first. She did so reluctantly, and when he returned, the police descended upon the scene.
She ran through a creek to get away, cut her leg open, and the police caught up with her. She had just a small amount of money on her, but they administered an on-site piss test and she had no drugs in her urine, so after an hour of her time, they released her. After she came back bloodied and scared, I asked her what would have happened if she had pot on her, and she said "jail for a long time, or kill me". I did not ask her to look again.
I met up with a German guy that was teaching English where I was volunteering. I was able to get some pressed flat herb from him. For about 50 dollars you can get about 14 grams of compressed grass. I asked him about the legendary Thai stick. He said that it had not existed for over a year now that he knows of. I was also told that if you are in a place where there are a lot of people partying, like a large disco scene, that the police can come in, close the place down, and piss test every one on the premises.
You do not get to leave with out a sample for them. If you test positive, you could find your self in a Bangkok jail, where the most nutrition you can find is from cockroaches and rats, according to an Australian guy who wrote a book about the jails in Bangkok ' he spent twelve years in prison for trying to take a small bit of his favorite substance home. I thought about this a bit, and after speaking with a guy that got urine tested in rural Chang Mia at a night club, I decided that maybe Thailand is not the place to be.

Cannabis In Thailand on the AardvarkTravel.net |
The Thai police are particularly good at being in the right place at the right time, with many dealers tipping them off in return for a few baht!
In Bangkok hostels, the walls are full of notes asking tourists to visit Western tourists who are experiencing an extended stay in a Thai prison. They all have pitiful stories of how they were caught for a small amount of weed, or were wrongly convicted, and now they're stuck in a Thai prison where not even the guards can speak any English! "Please visit 'joe bloggs'. He's in 'somesuchprison' for 20 years and his family can't/won't visit him..." is the usual message. They even give details of what to ask the tuk tuk driver to get there, or bus numbers if it's easier to find.
Every now and again you read stories of how some bloke offers you a deal, tips off the cops, meets you later at which point you are bundled into a police truck never to be seen again!
Sounds extreme, but it's a risk you take if you attempt to buy weed in Thailand.
You may come across other travellers with their own supply along the way, but you'd be desperate to risk incarceration on a rice and water diet for the next 20 years!
Oh!...and I was hearing stories of marijuana omelettes on Koh Phangan! ... Better not visit Thailand if you have such intention! ...
Anyone got any stories/warnings on how easy it is to get? ... am travelling there in April for a month and need my weed!
... You'd be mad to try and buy the stuff in Asia, particularly Thailand! The jail isn't known as the Bangkok Hilton for nothing you know!

Marijuana possesion in thailand? |
does having marijuana in your blood stream count as possession or do you have to have some with you i.e. not already smoked?
... Marijuana possession in Thailand is one of the easiest way to enter
the jail in Thailand and you must have heard how the hell jail in Thailand is! So, don't take chance!
If any one knows that you have any of them with you, they will report it to the policemen. Usually, the one who reports you gets reward. Some can get away from it after spending all the money he has, used as bribes or what not! If not, the jail is the only place for you.

I know its meant to be illegal, but must be a very profitable cash crop to poor farmers as it grows so easily. I heard it is available to buy at some markets....do the Thai police turn a blind eye to natives smoking it in their own homes?
Anyone got any experience of this?
... Seems alot of locals got discouraged when 2000+ people died during the last 'war on drugs'.
... he only Thai guy I saw smoking the weed was a hill tribe guy that was about 12 years ago.
I seen more weed in a space of 5 minutes in Australia that I've seen in in my whole time in Thailand. The only other people I seen smoking it were falangs . can't say I'm sorry not to see it here
... I know a few Thais that smoke, but not too many. I have certainly smelt it down Khao San Rd. A few guys I know up north smoke. Lots.
A few I know in the Sth do as well.
But I have seen very few really stoned people.
I think that the ones that DO smoke do it in a conservative manner. Most of the guys I know that do it do it in private, not in front of their guests (unless the guests want some too!). Come to think of it, some friends on Ph Ngan are big smokers. At times their whole guesthouse is full of people smoking.
So, to answer your question. Yes.

N.J. Senate approves medical marijuana bill -
Monday, December 15, 2008 |
TRENTON BUREAU:
A Senate committee today cleared a measure that would allow medical use of marijuana in New Jersey.
The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee voted to approve the long-stalled bill by a 6 to 1 margin; two senators abstained.
The bill calls for creating “alternative treatment centers” where people with chronic and terminal diseases would be allowed access to marijuana. Supporters say marijuana is a viable treatment option to alleviate pain in many cases.
“It is the definition of basic human decency that we do whatever we can to ease the pain and suffering of people living with severe chronic and terminal diseases,” said bill sponsor Sen. Nicholas Scutari, D-Union.
“When all other avenues of currently-approved pain relief have been exhausted, we need to give doctors the freedom to prescribe medical marijuana to give their patients a measure of comfort and dignity in the face of their debilitating diseases. This bill is about the most humane, compassionate option for those state residents who have nowhere else to turn in managing their illnesses.”
If ultimately approved by the full Legislature and signed by Governor Corzine, New Jersey would be the 14th state to allow medical use of marijuana.

A new study entitled Marijuana Effectiveness as an HIV Self-Care Strategy, which was released this past weekend in Clinical Nursing Research, indicates that persons living with HIV/AIDS rate cannabis as more effective in treating the symptoms of anxiety, depression, fatigue, diarrhea, and neuropathy than other prescription and over the counter medications.
The study, which was conducted over a two year period and included 775 patients from the USA, Africa, and Puerto Rico, assessed the use of cannabis as a symptom management approach for anxiety, depression, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, and peripheral neuropathy. 27% of survey participants reported using cannabis for medicinal purposes.
Researchers wrote that cannabis use “was rated slightly more effective than antidepressants for anxiety and depression, Imodium for diarrhea, [over the counter] (OTC) medications for fatigue, and anti-epileptics and OTC medications for neuropathy” while cannabis was rated “slightly less effective for nausea than either prescribed or OTC medications.” Authors concluded that cannabis “is perceived by users as at least as effective as prescribed medications in symptom management.”

We are genuine pioneers of our time, we have continued to keep the cannabis seed alive during a time when speaking out against the propaganda of this natural plant meant risking a life behind bars.

On the Near Hanging of a Medical Marijuana User
By
LESTER GRINSPOON, M.D.
| On November 4, 1989, Kerry Wiley, a 35-year-old computer science lecturer on sabbatical, was apprehended in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the possession of marijuana. He was accused of mailing himself a package containing marijuana from Thailand, and an informant tipped off the police who searched his apartment and found more marijuana. He was charged with the possession of over 500 grams of cannabis. Death by hanging is the prescribed penalty for possession of more than 200 grams (7.05 ounces) under Provision 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1983. One particularly chilling part of this law reads:
"In any proceedings under this Act the provisions of this Act shall be construed and interpreted so as to give effect to the purpose of this Act without regard for ambiguities, or infirmities of language, or other defects or deficiencies therein..."
More than a hundred people had been hanged in Malaysia under this law, including eight young Hong Kong residents the preceding summer. Bail is not allowed in such cases, and the prisoner may wait two to five years for trial. By the time Kerry came to trial he had spent over a year in the cruelly overcrowded Pudu prison, sleeping on a blanket on a cement floor in a small cell with several other prisoners, bathing in dirty water. Whereas the diet of the other prisoners was rice-based, his was restricted almost exclusively to potatoes apparently because he was an American. His nutritional state was poor and it was not surprising that his teeth were rotting. Nor was it surprising that he had become seriously depressed.

Illicit traffic and abuse of cannabis in Canada
R. T. STAMLER
Director, Drug Enforcement Directorate R. C. FAHLMAN
Chief, Strategic Analysis and Publications Section H. VIGEANT
Intelligence Analyst, Strategic Analysis and Publications Section Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada |
ABSTRACT --
In 1984 cannabis derivatives, in particular marijuana, hashish and liquid hashish, continued to be the most readily available drugs of abuse in Canada. Marijuana originating in Colombia decreased on the illicit marijuana market in Canada from an estimated 45 per cent in 1983 to 30 per cent in 1984, but it remained the largest source of marijuana supply. Marijuana originating in Thailand remained at approximately the same level (20 per cent) in 1984 as in 1983,
while marijuana of Jamaican origin increased its share in the illicit market from 10 per cent in 1983 to 20 per cent in 1984. Approximately 10 per cent of marijuana on the illicit market originated in Canada, 10 per cent in Mexico, and 10 per cent in the United States of America. In 1984 an estimated 85 per cent of hashish on the illicit market in Canada originated in Lebanon (55 per cent in 1983), 10 per cent in India or Pakistan (31 per cent in 1983) and 5 per cent in Jamaica (2 per cent in 1983). Illicit shipments in tonnes of hashish originating in Lebanon made this the dominant source of supply of the drug. Liquid hashish originating in Jamaica shared 88 per cent of the illicit market of this drug in Canada during 1984, while 10 per cent of the drug originated in Lebanon and 2 per cent in Canada.

US Government Says It Will Stop Interfering with Medical Marijuana |
According to this article, US Attorney General Eric Holder has said that states will be allowed to make their own rules about medical marijuana, and that the US federal government will stop raiding medical marijuana dispensaries in California. (See article “Can Marijuana Help Rescue California’s Economy?”at this link)
In the 1990s, several US states passed referendums which allowed marijuana to be used legally for medical purposes. In a referendum, the registered voters vote directly on the proposed law, as opposed to the law being passed by the state legislature. Thus, when these states passed these referendums, it meant that the citizens of these states really wanted medical marijuana to be made legal.
However, in a blatant disregard for democracy and the people’s will, under the Bush administration, the national government refused to accept this law, and carried out raids of the medical marijuana dispensaries.

Informational Guide on Medical Cannabis |
If you have ever heard of the song, “Lets Go Get Stoned,” as sung by Ray Charles or Joe Cocker, you know the lyrics were referring to getting high or using cannabis aka marijuana. This mind altering drug goes by other names as well; names such as weed, pot, joint, blunt, hash and mary jane are quite common among users. Cannabis is a plant that contains a chemical called cannabinoids or cannabinolidic acids.
Another substance that is found in cannabis is THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, which gives the users that “high” sensation. When speaking of marijuana, the actual substance used in creating the high feeling comes from the leaves and flowering tops of the cannabis plant. Marijuana is considered to be a schedule 1 controlled substance today, because of the THC, which can be highly potent, depending upon the concentration factor of the THC.

THE REEFER MADNESS ERA, REEFER MADNESS BOOKS (Info, History) By definition, it would be a contradiction in terms to list or classify a Reefer Madness book as a work of "Non-Fiction." Thus both genres are group together here simply as "Hard Cover" books; if only to distinguish them from the "Pulp Fiction" or "Dime Store novels" discussed elsewhere. However where appropriate the terms [Fiction] and [Non-Fiction] are used.

Proven : Cannabis is Safe Medicine
by Ian Williams Goddard | In reaction to medical cannabis access referendums on the ballots in Arizona and California, former presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and George Bush signed a letter stating that they "categorically oppose'' access to cannabis for its many proven therapeutic uses such as the prevention of blindness and epileptic seizures. Their chief concern was that legal medical access would send the message that cannabis is safe. The presidents can, however, lay their safety concerns to rest because the scientific literature overwhelmingly confirms that cannabis is both an effective and safe medicine.
The Cannabis Safety Profile. The journal PHARMACOLOGICAL REVIEWS reports that decades of research prove that, "Compared with legal drugs...marijuana does not pose greater risks." Yet based upon mortality statistics, we can safely conclude that cannabis is one of the safest medical drugs known, for, while prescription drugs, defined as safe by the FDA, kill up to 27,000 and aspirin up to 1,000 Americans per year, cannabis kills 0 per year. Examine the pros, cons, and controversies of marijuana as medicine! | Cannabis is still sending “signals of misunderstanding.”1-3 The result is an exaggeration of beneficial or deleterious effects as well as occasional intermixture of medical science with other moral categories. This book deals with health aspects of the cannabis plant and the cannabinoids while mainly factoring out societal aspects. Some authors refer to social topics that require discussion even within the bounds of a narrow handling of medicinal aspects.
