Support grows for Oregon marijuana initiatives PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) - Two local groups are working to gather support for two initiatives to legalize marijuana in Oregon. They say they recently gathered 5,000 signatures at the Hempstalk Festival for Initiatives 21 and 22. Initiative 21 seeks to amend the Oregon Constitution by ending criminal penalties for adult use and cultivation of marijuana. Initiative 22 seeks to create tax regulations for the sale of pot that could generate state revenue for schools, roads and social services. Organizers believe there is enough support in Oregon and now they just have to get the votes. "We know that people after the November election last year, they were going, 'why didn't it happen here?' " said William Appel, Campaign for the Restoration & Regulation of Hemp. "It happened in Washington and Colorado; we thought it was going to happen. So they're really out there in force helping us now." Article I of the Constitution of the State of Oregon is amended by a vote of the people to include the following new section, to be appropriately enumerated upon approval: Applicability of state laws and penalties to the private personal use, possession and production of cannabis; exceptions; state may regulate. Except for actions that endanger minors or public safety, neither the criminal offenses and sanctions nor the laws of civil forfeiture of this State shall apply to the private personal use, possession or production of cannabis, and any products produced therefrom, by adults 21 years of age or older. The State may enact laws and regulations consistent with this amendment to reasonably define, limit and regulate the use, possession, production, sale or taxation of cannabis under state law.   - See more at: >> cannabisamendment.org/text/
